The hotel Catarina Paraguassu was as wonderful as we remember from 8 years ago. The building is beautiful, the welcome was warm and the breakfasts are superb. Transfers were good - the driver complemented us on our Portuguese by assuming that we must be from Portugal because we spoke except we must be from Porto because he couldntt follow our accent!! We enjoyed the trip to Praia do Forte, and agree that the beach up away from the town is truly spectacular - empty, clean and pounded by waves. Thanks to you. The pousada was certainly not luxurious but it was close to one of the nicest beaches, and to the village. The owner, Mr. Dorivalo and his family are very kind and friendly. The pousada was clean and located in a very silent place with a nice view of the sea and of the Morro do Pico. The tours we did were very good, we had a guide most of the times for the four of us, he was very punctual and kind, they picked us up at the airport when we arrived as agreed and everything was as planned. Helen ------- ======= ------- Iguassu Falls & Rio de Janeiro Jeff and Martha Huey Cindy, We would like to say thank you very much for the Brazil tour package that you put together for Martha and I. Starting with our vague desire to visit Iguassu and Rio you suggested and then arranged an eight day itinerary the exactly fit what we wanted. The three nights in Ouro Preto were really nice. Your suggestion to visit there was perfect considering that we would be traveling through Belo Horizonte after spending two weeks in the state of Mina Gerais, at Governador Valadares, on the way from Governador Valadares anyway. Even though Ouro Preto was not neccesarily a featured destination for Discover Brazil you were able to make some very nice arrangements for us. The Solar Nossa Senhora do Rosario turned out to be a great place to stay and explore Ouro Preto. And you might consider contacting Claudio Neves of Grandtour Ouro Preto http://www.ouropreto.com.br/grandtour/  . After asking at the hotel for a guide that could take us to the Gold Mine, the front desk suggested we contact Claudio. He put together a tour of the the Minas Passagem gold mine, a local gemstone mine, and several other local sites, along with an english speaking guide. Claudio also provided transportation direct from our hotel to the Confins Airport in Belo Horizontes for $200 R. The airplane tickets that you had arranged were waiting for us at the ticket counter in the BH airport. One small problem that we encounter was that the airlines did not assign us adjacent seats or even window seats as we prefer. It worked out fine though because the ticket agent was able to change our seats for us. And as an added bonus, the Varig upgraded us to business class on the flight from SP to Iquassu. In Iguassu, we were met at the airport, as planned, by Joao Nunes. Joao and the supplied driver took very good care of us during our three days at Iguassu. The Tropical Cataratas was a wonderful place to stay. It was indeed full so we really appreciate that you were able to book us a room at such a relatively late date. The tour package that you had arranged worked out perfectly and is probably the best way to see and experience the falls. The Brazilian side, the Argentine side and then the Macoco River Adventure allowed us to see the falls from every direction and get a real feel for their size and majesty. Your suggestion to add the white water rafting portion of the river adventure (based upon your own personal experience) was right on. Rafting down the river was really fun and more exciting than I had imagined. Then it was off to Rio where were met by at the airport by Ze. Jose provided a very personal touch to our tour of Rio. With just a small amount of time, Ze provided a real good overview and feel for the beautiful city that Rio is. Next time we intend to spend more time in Rio and will certainly want to take advantage of Zes services. And, just like at Ouro Preto and Foz do Iguassu, the hotel reservations that you made for us were perfect. Actually, better than perfect, because not only were we at one of the nicest hotels in Rio, Caesers Park, when we checked in, the hotel upgraded our room to a two room executive suite that overlooked the Ipanema beach from the 14th floor. Cheers, Liliana Rodriguez ------- ======= ------- Amazon Jason Blynn - Philadelphia, USA Dear Lilian, I am just writing to say that my family adored our trip to the Amazonat Jungle Lodge. From the moment we stepped off the plane, we were attended to with care and professionalism. Our first day consisted of a brief tour of Manaus , during which we were able to see the famous Opera House and the incredible meeting of the waters, where the Amazon River meets the Rio Negro . The next few days consisted of a Jungle Trek (one at night too to look for giant spiders), a boat tour on the Amazon, including piranha fishing and alligator spotting, and a bout trip on the Urubu River. Between the three days we saw monkeys, alligators, parrots, parakeets, grey and pink dolphins, piranhas, iguanas, monkey spiders, and many other species of birds. The wildlife was simply amazing. The Lodge provided us with wonderful traditional food as well, including the basic beans and rice, and of course the fantastic local Amazon fish. And when we decided to leave a bit early the morning of departure to visit the Manaus Zoo, the Amazonat was very accommodating in arranging a van for us.
